G2 Esports takes second place at Six Major Raleigh 2019

After taking the hammer back in Montreal at the Six Invitational, the squad was ready to prove ourselves at LAN once again. We entered the major as a favourite for the title and were ready to defend our title as one of the best teams in the world.

We exited our group as the first seed, taking down both CYCLOPS Athlete Gaming and Team Secret with two quick 2-0’s, sending us to the main stage for Friday.

Our playoffs kicked off with the quarterfinal against North American favourites TSM, led by rising superstar Beaulo. Taking the match with a clean 2-0, we carried the momentum into our semifinals against the dark horse, forZe, whose trademark aggression was quickly stifled as we took another sweep.

As we took to the stage for our fourth major final in a row, the squad was ready to repeat the Six Invitational final against Team Empire. However, it was not to be. They held us to three deathly close maps, including a heartstopping overtime win on Kafe, eventually taking the win and becoming Raleigh champions.

While not the result we set our sights on, we couldn’t be prouder of our team. This will not be enough to stifle our fire and we are prepared to return to dominance again at Dreamhack Montreal - be sure to cheer us on when the tournament goes live September 6th. Send your support to our players Fabian, Goga, Kanto, Pengu, and UUNO, as well as our coach Shas and analyst Sua.
