After a successful five months of competition for our VALORANT roster, we have decided that changes will be made heading into 2021. Effective immediately, David “Davidp” Prins will be moved to the bench.
Initially standing in for G2 Esports at the Vitality European Open and WePlay! Invitational, Davidp was signed at the end of July after once again helping G2 secure victory, before going on to win every single Ignition Series tournament within Europe.
Even with his signature agent, Sage, receiving significant and repeated nerfs, Davidp continued to shine and expand his agent pool, shaking things up with Breach in multiple competitions. However, we feel that a change in the direction of the team is needed and, having evaluated the desire to deepen our flexibility moving forward has led to this decision.
Speaking about the move, team manager Maik “MaikTurtle” Löffler said:
It's exactly what they say: it's harder to stay at the top than it is to reach the top and we will always want to stay at the top, no matter what. This requires ambition and energy which will get put into it, but it also requires adaptation and flexibility at times which might seem shocking. David completed our roster a few months ago and we have seen incredible success together. It has been an emotional few months and we are super thankful for the time with David, but as a team, we came to the conclusion to search for additional options and let him explore as well. We will do all we can to support David with his future and are sure that we'll meet David on VALORANT servers very soon.
While Davidp is still under contract, we are allowing him to explore his options – those interested can reach out to Maik or our Head of Esports, Danny Engels.
We will be looking to take the VALORANT Champions 2021 trophy, as well as many others along the way, over the next 12 months and thank everyone who has supported the team so far. G2 will be setting the pace as VALORANT continues to grow as an FPS title and will further information on our future roster in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
